Feed Mill Operator-Night Shift
Job Summary
The Feed Mill Operator produces high quality feed and is knowledgeable about the feed mill manufacturing process, equipment, and systems.
**Currently hiring for an overnight position, days and hours may vary based on production needs, 10-12 hours per shift**
Key Responsibilities
- Manage ingredient process flow of entire feed mill to include receiving, grinding, batching, and loadout.
- Receive and order ingredients and maintenance of the feed mill, warehouse, bins, and related equipment.
- Coordinate, plan and execute finished feed production runs for the layer and pullet farms.
- Perform or coordinate preventative maintenance and repair of mill and related equipment as needed.
- Understand internal feed computer systems and process paperwork, orders, or related information to support farm operations.
- Follow established procedures to maintain sufficient ingredients and finished feed inventory levels.
- Maintain a clean orderly work environment.
- Provide back-up support to coworkers and other departments as required.
- Coordinates with other departments on troubleshooting day-to-day equipment concerns with feed consumption, scales, and accurate reporting of feed usage.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent; 5+ years related experience and/or training as a Feed Mill Operator; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Awareness and knowledge of the mechanical operations of a feed mill and knowledge of proper equipment maintenance
- Ability to read and write reports, ability to effectively review information and respond to questions from managers, employees, and others.
- Agricultural, mill, grain elevator, or equivalent experience is preferred.
- Training in preventative maintenance programs, mechanical and electrical systems is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Good communication skills and a teamwork attitude are essential.
- Computer skills and understanding of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Mechanical, electrical, and metal working knowledge is preferred.
- Ability to operate power tools and equipment safely.
- Valid driver’s license if asked to perform functions off the site.
- Independent Self Starter/Team Player
- Ability to work well with others in a fast paced, dynamic environment and have an attention to detail.
- Mathematical ability is required.
- Knowledge of production agriculture or feed operations is preferred.
- Ability to walk and stand for 10 hours/day.
- Forklift, Skid Steer, Front End Loader experience preferred.
Physical Demands
Stand and walk frequently through the day. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally. Must be able to climb ladders of various styles and heights.
Work Environment
May work near moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, loud noises, and cold or humid weather conditions. Certain areas may be loud enough to warrant ear protection. The employee may be exposed to waste material, feed, and dust. All personal protective equipment will be provided and required during certain working conditions and in certain areas. Employees may work in an outside environment where temperatures vary seasonally. The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
